Crasanzin (PAT): A sweet bread made with wholemeal rye flour and dry fruit, it is also known as Crescianzin. The product is round and has a diameter of about 20 cm, a thickness of 2-3 cm and a rough, irregular surface. Inside, it must be soft and well-cooked. The ingredients are the same as those used in the preparation of Rye Bread, to which one or more of the following are subsequently added: walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, raisins, dried figs, apples. It is made in the Verbano Cusio Ossola area (particularly in the Antrona and Vigezzo Valleys). At Christmas time, in some villages in the Ossola area, this bread was given something similar to a human form, with a clear reference to the Baby Jesus.
